Footscan & Custom Orthotics
About
Level up your movement with world-leading biomechanical technology and 3D-Printed Custom Orthotics
A footscan assessment is a diagnostic tool used to analyse the pressure distribution and foot mechanics while standing, walking or running. It involves stepping onto a specialised platform equipped with pressure sensors that measure the force exerted by different areas of the feet.
During the assessment, you would typically walk/run across the platform, allowing the sensors to capture data about how your feet make contact with the ground, any abnormalities in the gait, and areas of excessive pressure or uneven weight distribution. This information can help us identify issues such as flat feet, high arches, pronation (inward rolling of the foot), supination (outward rolling of the foot), and other biomechanical abnormalities that may contribute to foot pain, discomfort, or musculoskeletal problems.
Footscan assessments are often used to inform the design of custom orthotics, shoe modifications, or other interventions aimed at improving foot function and alleviating symptoms.
Gait Analysis
Industry leading pressure measurement technology for clinical gait and movement analysis to provide a crucial insight into the cause of pain or injury.
Load Distribution
Our indoor track allows you to get into your natural movement pattern and gait, enabling us to get a clear picture of what is going on during your activity.
Prevent future injury
Once we understand what is going on with your movement patterns, we take this information and use it to inform the next steps for your recovery and/or development.
3D Printed Custom Orthotics
Footscan data about your gait can be used to create Phits™ insoles, the world’s first data-driven 3D printed orthotics.

FAQs

What is a gait and movement analysis?
Utilising our 39m indoor track the Footscan® system measures the pressure distribution under each foot in real time and the shift in body weight while standing, walking and running. The Footscan® uses over 16,000 sensors providing valuable insights into pressure distribution, gait analysis and other aspects of foot biomechanics. Through 3D printing technology, the orthotics (insoles) are tailored to the individuals unique foot shape and needs.

What are Orthotics?
Orthotics (Insoles) are devices that are inserted into shoes to provide additional support for the foot and equalise the distribution of pressure placed on the foot when standing, walking, or running. Orthotics can assist with a range of concerns from reliving back pain caused by standing for long periods, to improving the performance of your foot during a time trial, or delivering power through your golf swing.
This is reflected in the meaning of ‘orthotics’, which is derived from the Greek term meaning ‘to align’ or ‘to straighten’.

Who are Phits™ Orthotics?
Phits™ orthotics are the world’s first, and leading, 3D orthotics. They design, craft, and supply custom orthotics to our clients, as well as world-class athletes such as Sir Mo Farah and Paula Radcliffe.
Using the data gathered from the Biomechanical Assessment, each pair of orthotics are custom made to perfectly fit your feet, provide the support you need, reduce the likelihood of injury and improve your performance. With a specific focus across a number of sports, here at Momentum we have been working with Gait and Motion and Phits™ since 2018.
