We recently caught up with our client Holly who came to see us in 2024 looking to build strength to aid her recovery from a hip labral tear.
What did you originally come into Momentum for and why?
I was diagnosed with a labral tear in my right hip in July 2024. I was advised to strengthen the joint and hoped I could return to competitive running whilst avoiding surgery. The team who diagnosed my tear recommended I go to Momentum to begin my rehab. I had started my return to running after 4 months of not being able to run but had lost a lot of confidence and felt I needed guidance around strength and conditioning to allow me to build up my mileage and returning to club training.
Which of our services have you used and who are you working with?
I first saw Kate, Sports Rehabilitator who I have been working with on a 1-1 basis for the last 6 months and she’s helped me tremendously. At first it was helping me to run pain free again, but over time has allowed me to gradually build up my training and return to racing. I’ve also really enjoyed the 6 week workshop Momentum offer – ‘Foundation of Running Course’ and ‘The Running Specific S&C Sessions’ that are weekly and you can join after the workshop. They have both complimented my running brilliantly and I am feeling much stronger and more powerful in the later stages of races because of it.
How has your injury progressed?
Over the last 6 months I feel I’ve regained my confidence and more recently have returned to racing cross country as well as 5km and 10km road races. I’ve really surprised myself how quickly I was able to return to racing and set PBs over both 5km and 10km. Through coming to Momentum, I feel I am able to string together weeks and months of consistent training which is something I’d really struggled to do over the last 5 years.
What are you working on now? Plans/Goals
To gradually increase my mileage and chip away at the 5-10km PBs I’ve set in recent months. I’m also hoping to run a half marathon this year!
