Getting to know Carl Bell Physio

So, who is Carl Bell our Physiotherapy Manager and what does he like to do away from work in his spare time, when he’s not prescribing lunges!

  • What do you like to do when you are not being a Physio?

Away from work I enjoy running, bigger distances preferably and the odd adventure race is enjoyable. I’ve recently joined the North of Tyne Mountain Rescue. I’m currently in training and enjoying being part of the team and helping others.

  • What’s your favourite take away/food?

Thai food or Mexican, (Zaap) in town is one of my favourites.

  • Have you ever suffered a major injury from sport yourself?

Too many to count! 4 x brake on my wrist, hernia, little finger broken and pinned and ruptured long head of bicep to name a  just a few.

We ask Carl some

  • Why did you become a Physio?

I became inspired by the Physios at NUFC (Kevin Bell) as I played football there until I was 19. This resulted in a few injuries and a lot of time spent with the physios. I was intrigued as to why he was doing certain things and his reasoning, so naturally I followed this path.

  • If you weren’t a physiotherapist what else would you like to do?

Before I went to University I applied for the regular Royal Marines, however my dad persuaded me to take a scholarship at Uni. I therefore would have probably taken that route. I joined the reserves and spent 14 years in the Royal Marines Reserves.

  • Do you have a special interest at work?

My favourite part is definitely running and lower limb injuries. I am passionate about the treatment rehabilitation process and take great satisfaction from seeing clients reach their goals, however big or small.
